Over the weekend, Liege and Ollie visited the team at Stay Gold Cycles in Newcastle, NSW, to welcome them as our latest dealers here in Australia!
We were lucky enough to meet the legends behind Stay Gold Cycles, Rob and Erin, at the SPOKEN Bike Show in Sydney just over two weeks ago, and when they told us their story and what they had planned we had to get involved. Fast forward two weeks and we got to watch them open the doors of their new store in the glorious NSW sun.
It’s very important for us to have a great relationship with our dealers in Australia and across the globe. That means we want to meet their community, understand the local trails and get involved with ideas and events THEY want to bring to life. And the only way to do this was jump on a plane with a bunch of bike boxes and go and see them.
Armed with the additional local knowledge and Ollie’s deep strava heat map stalking, we headed out onto the local trails to see what the local riding was like. Armed with the Big Kev V2 and the UpRock V2, we were ready for pretty much anything. Even if our roadie bike handling skills left a bit to be desired. I always think we are spoiled in Melbourne, especially from Curve HQ being on the trails in minutes. But, from hotel to trail head in under 10mins was something pretty rad! From there we ventured off into a maze of champagne gravel loops, bike paths and plenty of XC trails. All with beautiful beach views. Not much more you could ask for within a stone’s throw of an epic bike shop. The Glenrock state park really is a dream riding spot for all kinds of riding and I’d highly recommend taking Scenic Drive back into the city.
With Rob and Erin showing us incredible hospitality and treating us to all the sights, it’s safe to say we didn’t get up super early to head back to the trails on Sunday morning. But it was a big day, the day of the opening!
Fuelled up on coffee and NSW sun, we rolled over to the store and were soon greeted by waves and waves of riders rocking up for the social bike path cruise from Stay Gold to The Ship, a pub in town where the party was ready to go off. With live music, DJs and their own beer, it was one hell of a way to open a new store! A huge range of riders came out for the opening and it was awesome to see such a wide community of riders coming out to support the new store. We expect this will only be growing as we head into spring and the new wave of titanium space metal passes across northern NSW.
Stay Gold Cycles now have stock of GXR4 aka Kevin, Big Kev V2 and GMX+ Steel, so if you’re in the area, be sure to swing by and say g’day!
From everyone at Curve, we want to say a HUGE welcome to Rob and Erin at Stay Gold Cycles and thank you for your incredible hospitality in welcoming us to Newcastle. We don’t think it’ll be long until we are back heading out on the trails with you again!
Liege’s Big Kev V2
Liege opted for the Big Kev V2 for this trip. The ideal titanium gravel machine to take on a huge range of terrains. With Curve’s well known and refined take on gravel geometry paired with 29 x 2.1” tyres and a Transmission drive train, the Big Kev V2 is a gravel bike that is certainly not afraid of the trails!

I went a bit different to my normal rides and took the UpRock with me for the weekend. Having found all the trails I wanted to hit, and recently having a tonne of fun on the versatile titanium XC machine, I couldn’t help myself. The combo of flowy XC trails, the occasional rock garden and some sneaky red runs, I had a heap of fun shredding on the UpRock. As a new convert to the land of big tyres and flat bars, my skills might still be at a roadie level, but the confidence inspiring ride of the UpRock meant even I could have a tonne of fun on the trails and live to shred another day.
