Gus, Curve Cycling’s Expedition Guru, grew up on a family farm fixing fences and herding cattle, developing a practical, hands-on approach to problem solving. He began racing cross-country mountain bikes in the early 2000s and his passion for performance led him into high-performance cycling coaching. Along the way he studied exercise physiology, education, outdoor survival and first aid, working with athletes preparing for MTB World Championships.

Gus began bikepacking as early as 2014, long before modern bag systems were common, often carrying gear in heavy backpacks. In 2019 he set off on his Kevin of Steel to tour the world by bike, riding through countries including Japan, Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Lesotho, Scotland, Spain, Argentina and Chile.

Living as a full-time tourer taught him resilience and resourcefulness, from managing stolen gear to repairing equipment in the field. Having worked across everything from agricultural jobs to professional coaching environments, even a German Christmas market, Gus brings deep expedition experience, cultural connection, and a passion for helping others explore the world by bike.
