Walmer big-bar

It's a very good upgrade, I've purchased the big one and is very big, give the riding a new dimension. The harms are more relaxed, the chest more expanded, and you feel more confident in controlling the bike.
Thanks to the Curve team to make it!

Love them - great hand position and control

Love them - great hand position and control for gravel

Wow thes bars are really nice. The etching of the logo and the little hands suggest best drops and stem centering. The standard wrap is much nicer than other's premium. Really happy with them.

Great for bikepacking

I've had the 60's for a few years now and they have proven to be the perfect setup for bikepacking on my Salsa Fargo.

46BP and track bike = great marriage

The 46BP on my Specialised Landcaster is awesome: new hand positions (I rarely used the drop until now) and finally space to strap stuff. The not-too-wide-and-wide-enough 46 is still fun to slalom in tight traffic, with the additional comfort for hours on the saddle and other headwind business.

Walmer bars 55 cm

The best move ever to buy these bars 'cause I've missed the feeling of drop bars on my Bombtrack Beyond & ADV.
Love the width, love the size, love the possible hand positions, love the look...bloody well love everything about it! The only 'may be' is that for my hand size the bar tape could have been thicker: 4 or 5 mm. Again, this is a 'may be'. Also the plugs that came with the bars I've switched for plugs that can be screwn in. They're a bit more solid.
But all in all a fantastic purchase.

Perfect width but minor practical issues

I have been running the 46cm Walmer on my Curve Grovel Mk2 for over a year.

These are the perfect width to complement a gravel bike! I also love the slight sweep back on the tops and relatively short reach. Unfortunately the 46cm have almost no space in the middle 31.8mm section for accessories. It’s a struggle even to fit a bell! The flare translates to a significant rotation of the levers which can cause wrist issues and palm discomfort. It would be good if the flare started below the level mounting point, like the Zipp XPLR.

Just a note from us here at Curve for any future customers who might be going through the reviews before buying.
This review refers to a now outdated product and current versions of this handlebar have a wider clamping area.

The current version of the Walmer Bar in sizes 40, 43, 46 and 50cm all have a clamping area ranging from 120mm to 220mm. Please see the size guide further up on the page.

Game Changer

Picked up a set of 55s for my DPMTB. Hadn’t quite dialed in the cockpit as far as reach and flat top section. These do it. The back sweep helps shorten the reach and they’re great for taller folks with wide shoulders. Nice flat area on the top of the drops for the hoods and a comfortable riding position. They’re stupid expensive but buy once cry once and then shut up and hammer.

Never Going Back

These bars do everything I wanted, save one. Fit bags? Check. Steering strength? Check. Push-ups while I ride? Check. Fit through doors? Not check. These bars are big, you have to turn the front to fit through doors and I love it.

I purchased the 60cm bars last summer so that I could have four accessory bags and a front pack on my setup, they offer so much real estate. I did a few hundred km on a trip and the bars are certainly a conversation starter.

My wonderful bike mechanic thinks they look wild but I think they are super fun to ride with. Every future bike I get is immediately getting these bars. I'm never going back.

Travelling #Walmerwide

Perfect for those or broader shoulders as well as people looking for some extra pack space up front. I dropped in my 55cm bars, and after some adjustments to reach, have really enjoyed the wide open feeling while cruising. I went with an extra wrapping of tape to give some extra protection against vibrations. I am a serious fan of these bars, even if I get some strange looks as I pass the coffee shop set.

I am a convert

Fitted a set of 55cm Walmers to a Vivente Randoneeur, most riding is touring and gravel. At 6'3" with arms like an orangutang traditional road bars have never felt quite right. So after a couple of decent rides to get to know one another I am a convert, The difference in handling and stability on the bike is fantastic. Added an extra ridge of tape halfway down the drops to give the palms a rest point. Otherwise I could not be happier with the change they have made to the bike.

amazing

Get the 60cm. Ride. Enjoy. I have about 400miles on my Walmer bar so far. Total control and comfort. Would not use anything else.

Fantastic Bars

I have used quite a few 'dirt drop' handlebars over the last 10-15 years, but they always felt clumsy and awkward, so more traditional drop bars always ended up going back on the dirt rig. My experience with these bars has been the complete opposite. They feel very well designed, and each portion of the bar is not only usable but very comfortable. The slight sweep, short reach and shallow drop are all perfect for me and the way that I like to ride. I opted for the 50s, and they are really pretty amazing. The position on the hoods is super comfortable and feels close enough to resembling a 'road bike', but once you find some singletrack the additional leverage in the drops spurs some serious harmonic resonance. Can't recommend these bars enough. If you're on the fence about which drop bars to get for your off-roader 'road' bike, quit thinking about it and just buy these! If you have salsas or whatever other brand, order these and then ceremoniously destroy whatever you were riding. Walmers are really that much better.

Outstanding!

Definitely an upgrade. I have the 46 installed on my Norco. Stability is great in the current snowy Canadian conditions and plenty of options for different hand positions. Customer service ..... well I was told that there would be delay due to some pandemic, they lied, the bar arrived faster than domestic mail, which was a pleasant surprise, and the email from Curve thanking me for my purchase made the whole experience personal. I had my doubts about ordering the Walmer, but am so glad I did. 400km so far and I love it, can’t wait for gravel season and summer bike packing.

Excellent

First off the site states that there would be a delay in receiving the Walmer ..... untrue these arrived way quicker than domestic mail here in Canada. So don’t be put off by the ‘delay’. Bike handles so much better in the autumnal snow and ice conditions we have right now, and soooo comfortable with the sweep and multiple hand positions available.

My only gripe ..... the handlebar tape is not available to buy.

Love em

Put these bars on my gravel bike as I couldn't deal with 46cm.bars after 30 years on mountain bikes. Great fit and very comfortable. Took them out for a 75km ride last weekend and my hands felt great. The extra leverage is a huge improvement in rougher downhills and offers multiple hand positions for comfort. Great product

Love these Bars

Just completed my first real ride with these bars...LOVE them. The only thing I'm gonna do is add a second wrap of tape. Thanks for a GREAT set of bars!!!

Simply the best investment.

Absolutely fantastic bars. I purchased the 600mm wide option, this has given me enough room to run a set of inline brakes. I thought they would take a while to get used to, but to be honest they just felt right from the first ride. Highly recommended and if you don't believe me just stop me on the trails and ask.

Great!

Swapped out a 645mm Crust Towel Rack Bar after two rides for the Walmer 55 and won't look back - so much better. Thanks for the great customer service too.

Nearly Perfect

Being 6 feet 5 inches, I got the widest ones and no regrets. I installed them on my 2011 Salsa Fargo Ti and now the bike is perfect and for once in my life I no longer subscribe to N plus 1. They create a nice flat ramp at the hoods and the rearward sweep makes me feel like I have a MTB bar in my hands. Tons of leverage now when riding down dirt trails or roads. Not a gripe but I wished the extensions on the drops were longer. Because the bars are wide and even wider at the drop position because of the flair, I always find myself with the middle of my palm on the end of the drop extension. More drop extension or maybe less flair for the wider bars would be the ticket? The Ritchey Venturemax has the nicest feeling drop on the planet IMHO and it would be nirvana if the Walmer bar had something like this. But since I spend 95 percent of my time on top, I can more than live with it.

55s on a Norco Search

It just takes some time
Little girl, you're in the middle of the ride
Everything, everything will be just fine
Everything, everything will be all right

Pretty much refer to Jimmy Eat World. I do not understand people that say they feel natural straight away - they feel nuts wide and look even wider.

I'd say within 3 rides they felt normal, within 10 rides, I would never go back, within 15 rides, I rave at people to buy them.

If you commute a lot (and used to narrow bars) be prepared to smash into many things while you acclimatise.

Overall - love them, I'm about 50/50 road to gravel - and happy I made the choice. They felt even better with a dropper post for descending.

The ultimate bar - Walmer 55 is perfectly suited for my monstercross bike (hardtail frame and mtb wheelset with drops) and puts your hands in such a beautiful position that it's gotten me thinking that all XC bikes should have these bars for the extra comfort and control afforded by the drop position and getting your weight forward.
I haven't had a chance to do an all day ride yet (damn Melbourne COVID lockdown) but I look forward to it.
Also going to switch over the road bike to the Walmer 46 for extra aggressive descending and to make sure I upset all the purists.

The Walmer bar - one bar to rule them all

Love it, 60cm on Salsa Cutthroat

Installed on a medium v.1 Salsa Cutthroat from a 42cm, it's a game changer.

I would not go 60 for just gravel, 50 or 55 but the 60 it's great for bikepacking. Room on the tops for accessories, aero/accessories bar and room to spare for the hands. I can also transport a full handlebar roll that is not touching the drops or the levers. I did not need to change the OEM stem, just flipped it and lowered it a little moving spacers above the stem.

It has a serious drawback however, the tips of the drops will hit the frame right in the top tube instead of sliding above it. A hard crash yanking the handlebar to the top tube could potentially crack the frame. I put chair legs dampers on the tips, it helps dampening a hit to the frame to prevent cosmetic damage.

The tape has a nice feel to it but is too thin and not long enough to allow double wrapping.

Walmer Bar 50 lives up to the hype!

Roadie turn Trail and Enduro rider, mates convince me to try Gravel riding. Got NorcoSearch XRsteel and upgrade to Walmer 50. Only way i will be confident riding offroad, but on first ride went down with MTB mates down Oak Flow singletrack. Superb handling!.

750 Walmer.. hehehehehe

Worst thing I can say is... well its wide. Best thing I can say, IT’S WIDE!
Coming from alt bars, Jones (on the JoneSS +) and Towel Racks on the Moné, these are sweeeeeeet! The flare is about perfect for SS allowing cranking from the drops without hitting my forearms (was a SLIGHT issue with towel rack).
No issues with control or (sh*t) anything else. Lots of real estate to mount whatever you want, light, computer, bell, chuck bucket and there is still room to spare!

Only a few rides on it but have a hard time imagining swapping back.

Go wide

Bought the 50 for my gravel steed, fitted and wrapped the moment it arrived, loving the feel of the drops and the Stance on the hoods, makes the standard bars that came on my steed tame
Now thee roadie is almost permanently parked as I love riding gravel with the walmers
Great job crew
