This one day gravel ride of the Otways is probably one of the tougher days on the bike we have put together. So for that reason we have created three different route options (60 km, 90 km, 150 km) to accommodate for all levels. All have generous doses of climbing, and the first 25 kilometres of each option is slow going for some, mostly due to sandy single track and many short steep ramps to warm up on. After this section it will speed up and you'll have a few great descents.
This route can get rough in some areas, trails get washed out in the wetter season, leaving large ruts and exposed roots as an extra obstacle. When the Curve crew rode this course it had been raining heavily so the day was one big mud festival as you’ll see from the photographs.
All that aside, the Otways is such a wonderful place to ride. It's lush rainforest, full of big tree forests, and has endless trails on offer. Sitting inland off the Great Ocean Road, it’s only a 90 minute drive from Melbourne CBD.
Jesse and Adam both rode the titanium Curve GXR (Kevin) with rigid fork, whilst Ryan rode his GMX with front suspension. Bikepacking bags were Apidura and Revelate.
