Curve's favourite steel gravel bike is back with a new look. In a tribute to the mighty four-wheel drives that cut the first vehicle tracks through the Australian outback, Kevin of Steel is now available in this camel cruiser colourway. Complete with pin-striping and a tribute badge decal you'll be ready for adventure on Curve's most versatile steel gravel machine.
Many of the Curve squad have traversed Australia, New Zealand, Switzerland, Swaziland, South Africa, Lesotho, Cuba, Croatia, and more on this magnificent bicycle. The Kevin of Steel is an extremely versatile bike - it's really two bikes in one. The carbon Ride 400 fork has clearance for wheel options suited to your riding style. In its most nimble mode, Kevin can run 700c wheels with 32–45 mm tyres, best suited for commuting, gravel, and cyclocross. If you're looking to tackle rougher terrain, use 27.5" wheels fitted with up to 2.2" tyres. Curve's carbon and aluminium wheel options are available in both sizes.
The Kevin of Steel is definitely not the poor cousin of its titanium counterpart, the Curve GXR. With its carefully selected tube set, the Kevin of Steel has its very own special ride quality. After all, Superman is the man of steel, not titanium. The main frame triangle is constructed from Italian-made Columbus Zona double-butted tubing, the ideal compromise between weight and durability. The custom 4130 steel yoke design allows Kevin to run wide gravel tyres in two wheel sizes and also stiffens the bottom bracket area to reduce frame flex under load.
This latest incarnation of the Kevin of Steel is another instalment in an interesting gravel lineage for Curve. Curve stumbled upon gravel bikes well before it was the well-defined genre we see in the market today. Years ago, Curve noticed its CXR cyclocross race machine was rarely used for CX. More often it was used for light-duties adventure cycling and gravel touring. In fact that's mostly what the Curve squad themselves were using it for. Curve ditched the CX idea and committed to gravel, optimising the geometry for that application in the first Gravel Grovel and GXR models. It seemed like a strange call at the time but either by fluke or good luck, Curve was ahead of the curve on the push into gravel cycling.
Right now, Curve has Kevin of Steel frameset stock in the camel cruiser colourway available for customers to complete their own project build. Curve is also in a unique position to work with customers to select from one of its battle tested SRAM or Campagnolo groupset options and finish an awesome complete adventure bike build with Curve's standard finishing kit.
