Curve Cycling announces that CarboKev, a hybrid carbon–titanium gravel race frame designed, assembled, bonded and finished in Melbourne, is now available for sale. This hypersonic mix of 3D-printed titanium, carbon fibre, theoretical physics and ’90s sneaker culture has stolen hearts at recent handmade bike shows. The CarboKev platform combines 3D-printed titanium lugs with carbon tubes, using double-lap joints at every critical bond and geometry derived from Curve’s established adventure-cycling and gravel lineage. The result is a lighter and stiffer platform than its full-titanium sibling while maintaining long-distance comfort and precise handling.

Construction and ride intent

CarboKev is the second frame to emerge from Curve’s in-house bonding program. The structure is organised into two functional zones, merging the best of titanium and carbon material properties:

  • Stiffness zone: carbon down tube and chainstays form a direct load path from the head tube to the rear axle; a solid, efficient foundation to maximise power transfer and steering accuracy.

  • Comfort zone: the titanium top tube and minimal seat stays are tuned for vertical compliance to reduce rider fatigue without dulling front-end response or compromising power transfer.

Key standards include clearance for 29 × 2.2” tyres, a low, race-oriented front end matched to Curve’s upcoming 40 cm Race Carbon Walmer Bars, and fully internal cable routing.

CarboKev is the most tested Curve frame to date. The testing program was designed to validate the bonding architecture and confirm durability under cumulative, high-load use.

Jimmy Rostlund, Technical Lead, Curve Cycling:
With CarboKev we iterated every lug profile, wall thickness and bond length. 3D-printed titanium lets us place material exactly where the stresses demand it; bonded carbon lets us tune the ride in ways a single material can’t.

While Curve works with a world-class group of production partners, our goal is to bring more manufacturing elements of our most premium bikes back home to Australia. CarboKev is the second project on this pathway.

Construction Overview: CarboKev features a hybrid frame architecture, pairing straight-gauge carbon fibre tubes with 3D printed titanium lugs and junctions. Bonding is achieved using a high-performance structural adhesive rated for exceptional strength across a wide temperature range. It’s stable enough to handle the boot of a car through the scorching Australian summer without degradation or risk of debonding.

Bonding Strategy: Double-lap joints are used throughout the frame to maximise bonded surface area and shear strength, except in one single-lap location (we’ll let you figure out where). This construction method improves bond reliability under both fatigue and impact loads.

3D Printed Titanium Components

  • Bottom Bracket Cluster: T47 3D printed titanium unit with an integrated yoke and “power pyramid” for improved drivetrain stiffness and tyre clearance.
  • Headtube: Fully 3D printed titanium with an internal socket for a double-lap bonded carbon downtube.
  • Dropouts: UDH and SRAM Transmission compatible dropouts, 3D printed and hollowed internally to reduce weight while maintaining stiffness and strength. The left dropout accepts a 160 mm rotor brake caliper directly; no adapter required.
  • All 3D printed components have been individually optimised for wall thickness and internal structure to tune strength-to-weight performance.

Customers can access Curve’s sizing support to ensure an appropriate cut for internal routing and a race-ready fit. Builds are offered with SRAM RED E1 XPLR groupset options, the updated Curve Carbon Race Walmer Bars, and Curve G5T [G] Carbon wheels. The eye-catching CarboKev Splatter Art finish by Candy Factory Paintworks is standard, with colours that can be tuned; custom paint is available on request.

Frameset and frameset packages (including bars and seatpost) are available, along with complete builds. CarboKev is also available with an integrated seatpost (ISP) on request.
