Kristof Allegaert

Kristof Allegaert

One of the biggest names in ultra-distance cycling - although you wouldn’t know it from his humble demeanour and down-to-earth attitude. Kristof is best known as the three-time winner of the TransContinental Race, he also won the 2015 edition of the 9,200 km Red Bull Trans-Siberian Extreme race. He was leading the inaugural Indian Pacific Wheel Race in 2017 after a brutal 5,000 km showdown with Mike Hall, when the race was cancelled after Mike Hall was tragically killed by a motorist. Kristof may ride up to 45,000 km a year, and go for 33 hours at a time without sleep, but he claims to ride simply for the love of it.

  • Favourite Rides
  • Impossible to name just one! I like to be able to experience a place in its entirety. To get to know a country, a region or a continent, I must also ride the empty places, the mountains ranges and deserts. The longer the ride the better, the more I can feel the sun on my skin and the wind in my ears.

  • On the other hand, I live next to a church where I was born and raised, and work in the same area too (seriously!). Understandably, that means my day-to-day world is pretty small and that I am afraid to step into the unknown… But I also like to be spontaneous and go on last-minute adventure next door.

  • Having said that, here are a few of my favourite places to ride:

  • The Sahara
  • Malawi
  • Patagonia
  • Peru
  • Bolivia
  • Alaska
  • Canada
  • Pyrenees
  • New Zealand
  • The Gobi Desert
  • The Atacama (Chile)
  • Russia

  • And my first loves...
  • Iran
  • Afghanistan
  • Kyrgyzstan
